my heart trembles
with grief
like the dew
poised on a leaf
when I am not with you
my tears flow
like the dew
shaken from the flower
on sunrise
when I am not with you
my soul cries out
llike a flower
without water
in a vase
when I am not with you
my mind remembers
your smell
like the scent
of a flower
when I am not with you
my soul cries
tears falling
like rain
missing you
May 2010
this poem was written in response to a text from W paraphrasing a few lines from a famous Tang dynasty poem by Du Fu:
感时花溅露 gan shi hua jian lu feel time flowers splash dew
恨别鸟惊心 hen bie niao jing xin hate separate birds startled heart
one translation is: the flowers shed tears of grief for the troubled times and the birds seem startled as if with the anguish of separation. Another is: troubled by the times I shed tears on the flowers, and hating separation, I am startled by the birds.
