With no base on which to build
That I am depressed, that's all,
It'll go, they say, with a sigh....
They of course are those
who have always been content
with the rightness of themselves;
never a thought to the state of others;
no empathy at all.
But depression destroys
One's love of life;
There is no life
When one can't bear to be.
So perhaps my gainsayers
should pause a moment -
and think of why
I keep saying I want to die.
You think the world so wonderful,
how could I wish to go?
Maybe you should practice
walking a mile in my shoes,
take my pain and troubles;
you are so good - you could fix them!
And after the mile,
come back to me
and say you don't believe
in depression.
