20131217: My Granddaughter's Poem

My Granddaughter wrote this poem and won a prize for it:

The Magic Box

I will put in the box
The first noise of a puppy
The warm breeze from a fire
The present under the Christmas tree

I will put in the box
My second birthday wish
A round diamond
A star on top if the tree

I will put in the box
The smell of hot chocolate
A first word of a baby
A red shiny car

I will put in the box
The first snow flake
The last flower on a tree
The smell of vanilla milk

I answered with the following:

My Magic Box

If I had a magic box
I would keep it locked
Away from others' eyes
To keep it all mine

If I had a magic box
It would hold my memories
My daughter's first steps
My son's first words
The sounds of laughter
When my grandchildren play

But mostly my box would contain
All those things that lay
Close to my heart
From which I couldn't part:
My family's lives, so precious,
That they are more than my life to me.
